Giardini di Toscana perfumes: from Bibbiena, emotions in a bottle

The story

Giardini di Toscana was born in Bibbiena, a medieval village in the Casentino valley. The story begins in 1942, when Giovan Piero and Emma Ducci open a small shop: he has gained experience in the village pharmacy and specialises in fragrances and ointments. In the 1960s their daughter Irma turns the business into an elegant perfumery that brings the great international brands to the Casentino. There, among the bottles, her daughter Silvia Martinelli grows up, today co-founder and nose of the house. “It all began with my grandfather, Giovan Piero Ducci, in his pharmacy shop where he created perfumes and ointments”, she recalls.

Silvia studies perfumery between Italy and France and spends, in her own words, over fifty years “behind the counter”, listening to customers. From that listening Giardini di Toscana is born: a line of signature fragrances first intended only for the family boutique, which success among Tuscan customers turned into a brand. The idea is stated plainly: “to give voice to emotions through the sense of smell”. And again: “We do not create fragrances to please everyone. We create them for those who have the courage to choose, to be recognised even with eyes closed”. For the house, perfume is “a gesture of freedom”.

On the perfumery's online shop, in 2013, there were two perfumes, called Eremo and Madrigale. Then came today's collection, with its wooden cap: Bianco Latte, Celeste, Blu Indaco, Shabby Chic, Bianco Oro and Rosso Rubino, followed by Colonia Nobile in 2021 and, in 2023, by Borabora, Christos, Scintilla and Almafolia. In 2024 it was the turn of Blu Mare, a journey from inland Tuscany to the sea. In March 2026 the Trilogia was released: Verde Respiro, Ricordami and Oro e Miele, three perfumes dedicated to nature, affections and beauty. Meanwhile Bianco Latte had become a phenomenon: “TikTok amplified what Bianco Latte already was: an authentic connection”, says Silvia Martinelli, who describes it as “an olfactory embrace, a cuddle that accompanies and comforts”.

All the perfumes are unisex Eau de Parfum in 100 ml bottles. The house declares a production that is 100% Made in Italy: research is in-house, entrusted to Silvia Martinelli; the blend of essences is assembled in Italy by a single long-standing partner; maceration and bottling take place in Tuscany, in two family-run workshops. The bottle shows the same care: partly recycled glass from a historic Italian glassworks, caps made by Italian artisans from FSC-certified wood, boxes of 70% recycled paper. From a provincial shop Giardini di Toscana has reached, by its own figures, over 80 countries and more than 690 points of sale. Production, however, remains where the story began: in Tuscany.

Frequently asked questions

Where is Giardini di Toscana based?
Giardini di Toscana is based in Bibbiena, in the province of Arezzo, in the heart of the Casentino valley. The headquarters and the boutique of the house are there, born from the shop that Silvia Martinelli's grandparents opened in 1942. Today Silvia creates all the fragrances, made 100% in Italy, with maceration and bottling in Tuscany.

Which are the best-selling Giardini di Toscana perfumes?
The best loved is Bianco Latte: it comes first among the best sellers listed by the house and is by far the most voted on Fragrantica. The same official selection includes Borabora, Blu Indaco and Celeste. With us, the three to start from are Bianco Latte, Blu Mare and Celeste.

What does Bianco Latte smell like?
Bianco Latte smells of caramel, honey and vanilla: it opens with caramel, has a heart of honey and coumarin and a base of vanilla and white musks. It is a creamy, enveloping amber gourmand. Silvia Martinelli, who created it, describes it as “an olfactory embrace, a cuddle that accompanies and comforts”.

Is Bianco Latte for men or for women?
It is unisex, like all Giardini di Toscana fragrances, which the house says are “designed for everyone, with no distinction of gender or age”. Bianco Latte appeals to those who love sweet, enveloping perfumes; those who prefer a drier character can look at Christos, Rosso Rubino or Verde Respiro.

Which Giardini di Toscana perfume is similar to Bianco Latte?
Those who love Bianco Latte usually enjoy Oro e Miele, a powdery gourmand with wildflower honey, vanilla and iris, and Borabora, which combines coconut milk, vanilla and caramel with tiaré flowers. The house itself recommends Borabora among the perfumes to wear together with Bianco Latte.

Which are the freshest Giardini di Toscana perfumes, for summer?
Blu Mare is marine and citrusy, with cypress and ambergris. Celeste smells of clear sky and clean air after the rain. Colonia Nobile is the Italian cologne in a modern key, Ricordami and Verde Respiro are green and aromatic. For a more exotic summer there is Borabora, with tiaré and coconut milk.

Is there a 50 ml Bianco Latte?
No: Giardini di Toscana Eau de Parfum are sold in a single bottle size, 100 ml. This applies to Bianco Latte and to all the other fragrances of the house. It is a size that lasts a long time, also because a little is enough: according to the house, Bianco Latte can stay on the skin for up to 24 hours.
