Coreterno

The story

Coreterno was born from a Roman idea and a small table in Brooklyn. The founders arrived in New York with a few T-shirts and candles they had designed and were given, for two weeks, a spot at Artists & Fleas, the emerging design market. Michelangelo Brancato, today the house's creative director, told the story like this: “We had 4 or 5 T-shirts and three candles, and after 40 minutes we were being interviewed by a journalist from the New York Post”; “that”, he adds, “is where our American adventure began”. For the house the year of birth is 2015: Coreterno was “conceived in Rome and brought to life on the cosmopolitan streets of New York”.

The name joins two words and means “eternal heart”. Behind it is a manifesto, which begins like this: “We descend from the families of alchemists, engravers, rebels, mystics and poets”. The style comes from this encounter: the punk rock of the Seventies, nineteenth-century illustrations, sumptuous Renaissance paintings and, at the centre, “the salvific power of symbols and written words”. The declared aim is “to breathe life into inanimate objects”, and today Coreterno presents itself as “the rebel soul of the world's high artistic perfumery”.

First came the T-shirts and the candles, then the perfumes. In 2019 four Eau de Parfum made their debut, signed by Luca Maffei, perfumer at Atelier Fragranze Milano, born into a family of perfumers and since 2020 in the Gold Book of the Masters of Arts and Crafts: Punk Motel, Hierba Nera, Catharsis and Rose and Me. No Sleep and Mystic Sugar arrived in 2021; in 2022 Hardkor, the first fragrance entrusted to Arturetto Landi; in 2023 Freakincense and Psychedelicious; in 2024 Oceanoir and Night Idol; in 2025 Hypnorange, Godimenta and Ultralove. In 2026 two new signatures joined: Ashley Santiago for Egocentrique and Emilie Bouge for Discoflower. The house does not speak of noses but of interpreters: on every fragrance it writes “Interpreted by”, as one does with a piece of music.

Coreterno perfumes are recognisable at a glance: a black cap and a black and gold label, dense with engravings, cherubs and crests. They are all 100 ml Eau de Parfum, unisex, and the house declares them vegan and cruelty free. The invitation is always the same: “awaken the rockstar within you”. Alongside the fragrances Coreterno creates candles, jewellery and scarves, and is sold in more than 40 countries; among those who have chosen it, the house says, are “celebrities and royals such as Queen Letizia of Spain”. Its heart, however, remains Italian: Coreterno calls itself “the pride and joy of made in Italy craftsmanship”.

It tells of “a golden beach at sunset”: seaweed, bitter orange, grapefruit and bergamot in the opening, an unusual heart of salt, saffron, blackcurrant and bougainvillea, a base of vetiver, sandalwood, amber woods and musk. It is a warm marine, far from the usual aquatics.

Which Coreterno perfume is similar to Mystic Sugar?
If you love Mystic Sugar, the closest is Ultralove: the same gourmand soul, but creamier, with hazelnut, coffee and milk in place of the tropical fruit. Hypnorange picks up its sunny side, with orange, coconut and vanilla, in a more citrus key. Psychedelicious is the choice for those who want fruit in the foreground, with raspberry, lychee and mango.

Are Coreterno perfumes for men or for women?
They are all unisex: the house does not divide its fragrances by gender, and of Hardkor it writes that it is “genderless”. Those looking for a darker signature usually turn to Hardkor, Night Idol, Catharsis or Hierba Nera; those who prefer a softer trail to Mystic Sugar, Ultralove, Discoflower or No Sleep. These are matters of taste, not rules.
