The story

Atyab Al Marshoud was born in Kuwait in 1925. Its founder, Sulaiman Al Marshoud, created what the house presents as the first fragrance company in the Gulf: to find the best materials he travelled extensively to India and Southeast Asia, in search of incense and scented woods from thousand-year-old trees. He sold incense and pure oils extracted from plants and flowers, and taught his sons the art of blending oils to create fragrances. Since then the company has stayed in the family, generation after generation, and today it is one of the oldest perfume houses in Kuwait and the Middle East.

The name is the family's own. Sulaiman Al Marshoud, the house recalls, was the first to introduce the world of fragrances in the region; the new generation has added “a modern edge without losing the historic and traditional aspects” that are at its core. From the incense and oud of tradition a collection was thus born for different tastes. The priority is stated plainly: to produce the best quality fragrances at affordable prices. And the motto sums it up in one line: “They make perfumes, we create memories”.

Alongside the oils and incense came today's perfumes. The Marshoud 4 line is the most recognisable signature: Marshoud 4 White, with mint, cardamom, saffron and oud, is the house's declared best seller; Marshoud 4 Black plays on rose, vanilla and white musk; Marshoud 4 Red London Edition is the tribute to London. Then there are the All Over Sprays, scented sprays to be used generously, with unusual accords such as the lime and salt of Salt or the lychee and rose of Lychee. Over the last ten years the house has grown to more than 86 stores around the world.

In Europe Atyab Al Marshoud opened its first store in Knightsbridge, London, and its second in Puerto Banús, Marbella. Alongside its perfumes it offers hair mists, body care, home fragrances, incense, oils and burners: the whole Arabian scent ritual. The bottles change character with the fragrance, from the white one with the wood-effect cap of Marshoud 4 White to the black of the All Over Sprays. In Italy the house lists OUD Profumeria Artistica among its points of sale. All the fragrances are made in the house's own factory in France.
