The story

Bon Parfumeur is the Parisian house of Ludovic Bonneton, a founder who came to perfume as an enthusiast, not as an insider. At fifteen his perfume was Jicky by Guerlain; then his career took him elsewhere, into digital, all the way to heading Yves Rocher's digital business. The turning point was Colombia, where he lived with his family amid tropical scents: cocoa, coffee, flowers. Back in Paris he decided to bottle that world together with the greatest French noses. He does not compose: he chooses a memory and entrusts it to a perfumer.

The idea lies in one of his sentences: “Where some choose photos to immortalize moments, I decided to trust the perfumes”. Each fragrance preserves a memory, a journey, a place; the house calls it “a collection of emotions”. There is a play on words in the name: in French “bon parfumeur” is the good perfumer, and Bon is also the first three letters of Bonneton. Then there are the numbers, the house's most recognisable sign. The first digit indicates the olfactory family, from 1 for the florals to 6 for the woods, up to 9 for the specials; the other two tell the order in which the perfume was born within its family.

The first fifteen fragrances came from the work of six perfumers; the house's first perfume, 901, was signed by Corinne Cachen together with Ludovic. Over time the team grew, from young talents such as Clément Marx to masters such as Anne Flipo. The Eaux de Parfum were joined by the Les Privés collection, rarer and more intense, and in October 2024 came Les Extraits: three new creations, 107 Nappa Tuberosa, 502 Iris Cartagena and 602 Bois Narcotique Intense, and four Les Privés perfumes reborn as Extrait de Parfum, 104 Terra Hedera, 303 Marbre Rouge, 603 Cuir Sahib and 903 Oud Ilam. Here every number also has a name, which tells the inspiration: a dinner in Cartagena, the Golden Temple of the Sikhs, a night at the Taj Mahal, an afternoon among the antique dealers of Paris.

The house's declared bestseller is in fact an extrait, 502 Iris Cartagena by Clément Marx, born from the memory of Ludovic's first dinner with his wife, a summer evening under the stars. Les Extraits can be recognised by the bottle: smoked glass and a golden cap. In Paris Bon Parfumeur has two boutiques in the Marais, in rue des Francs-Bourgeois and rue Sainte-Croix de la Bretonnerie, and alongside its perfumes it offers candles and home diffusers. Everything is made in France, and the house tells it piece by piece: the bottles come from Normandy, the perfume is produced in Grasse, the labels are printed in Cognac, the boxes are made in Grignan. “Why go far when know-how is so close?”

What do the numbers of Bon Parfumeur perfumes mean?
Every Bon Parfumeur perfume has a three-digit number. The first digit indicates the olfactory family: 0 colognes, 1 florals, 2 fruity scents, 3 ambers and spices, 4 vanilla and musks, 5 gourmands, 6 woods, 7 aromatics, 8 aquatics, 9 specials. The other two digits tell the order in which the perfume was born within its family: 603 Cuir Sahib, for example, is the third creation among the woods.

What is the difference between 502 Iris Cartagena Extrait and Eau de Parfum?
502 Iris Cartagena was born in 2024 as an Extrait de Parfum, and this is the version you will find with us: rum, cocoa, iris and papyrus, with a base of coffee and sugar cane, to tell the story of a summer dinner under the stars. The Eau de Parfum of the same name came later and is a fresher, lighter interpretation, with mandarin and eucalyptus.

What is the difference between 602 Bois Narcotique and 602 Bois Narcotique Intense?
602 is one of the house's best-known perfumes: an Eau de Parfum of pepper, cedar and patchouli signed by Nathalie Koobus, born from the idea of a walk after the rain. 602 Bois Narcotique Intense is its Extrait de Parfum version, signed by Sidonie Lancesseur: Ludovic Bonneton wanted it more intense and longer-lasting, with what he calls “an overdose of incense”, joined by green apple, amber woods and moss. What kind of perfume is Bon Parfumeur 603 Cuir Sahib?
603 Cuir Sahib is a leathery, woody Extrait de Parfum signed by Mylène Alran: nutmeg and violet leaf in the opening, incense and clary sage in the heart, leather, tonka bean and patchouli in the base. It is inspired by the Golden Temple of the Sikhs, “a magnetic place” to which Ludovic Bonneton returned every morning. 603 was born in 2020 as an Eau de Parfum, named after its three notes, cuir, encens, fève tonka; since 2024 it has been part of Les Extraits under the name Cuir Sahib.

Are Bon Parfumeur perfumes for men or for women?
They are all unisex: the house does not divide its fragrances by gender but by olfactory family. Those looking for a bolder signature usually turn to 602 Bois Narcotique Intense, 603 Cuir Sahib or 903 Oud Ilam; those who prefer a softer trail to 107 Nappa Tuberosa, 502 Iris Cartagena or 303 Marbre Rouge.
