The story

Goldfield & Banks was born in Sydney in 2016 from a journey. Dimitri Weber, a French-Belgian fragrance expert, arrives in Australia and is captivated by a landscape that, the house says, feels endlessly aromatic: turquoise coasts, sunlit forests, red country stretching to the horizon. What strikes him most is the rarity of the ingredients: extraordinary essences that modern perfumery had barely touched. Hence the idea of an Australian luxury perfume house, with a gender-free collection that pairs the native botanicals of the continent with French savoir-faire. The name holds two stories together: the goldfields of the gold rush and Joseph Banks, the naturalist who reached Australia in 1770 with Captain Cook's expedition.

Each perfume in the Native Collection revolves around a native ingredient and a place: the coastal moss of the South Coast in Pacific Rock Moss, the first formula of the house; the blue cypress of Kakadu; the boronia of Bruny Island, in Tasmania, for Southern Bloom; the finger lime for Bohemian Lime, a tribute to Byron Bay; the desert peach of Broome for Sunset Hour, which the brand presents as the first perfume in the world with this note. “I want every Goldfield & Banks perfume to transport its wearers to the places in Australia that inspired it”, says Weber. Since 2016 the house has worked with Australian growers and distillers and declares oils that are traceable from field to final blend.

The first four perfumes are Pacific Rock Moss, White Sandalwood, Desert Rosewood and Blue Cypress. In 2018 comes Southern Bloom, silver as best new niche fragrance at the 2019 Pure Beauty Awards; then Velvet Splendour, Bohemian Lime, Sunset Hour and, in 2023, Ingenious Ginger. Since 2021 there has also been the Botanical Series, dedicated to botanicals from around the world cultivated in Australian soil: it opens with Silky Woods, built on an agarwood from Queensland and enclosed in a bottle lacquered with 24-carat gold powder, a tribute to the gold rush. Then come Purple Suede, with Tasmanian lavender, Island Lush, Silky Woods Elixir, Tales of Amber and Rose Magnitude. Under Weber's creative direction, the fragrances are signed by perfumers such as François Merle-Baudoin, Hamid Merati-Kashani, Honorine Blanc, Ilias Ermenidis and Olivier Cresp.

The oil blends are created in Australia, with Australian and global essences; then, the house explains, they are sent to France, where they are diluted in organic beetroot alcohol and bottled. The house declares its perfumes cruelty free. The glass bottle has a wooden cap and a label with edges like a postage stamp. In 2026 Goldfield & Banks celebrates ten years with Pacific Rock Swell, the Extrait de Parfum that takes up the ocean of Pacific Rock Moss, and with Sunset Hour Dark Peach. Today, according to the house, its perfumes are present in over 54 countries.

Sunset Hour is a juicy, sunny fruity gourmand, with desert peach, raspberry and salted caramel, inspired by the sunsets of Broome. Sunset Hour Dark Peach, released in 2026, is for the brand a deeper, warmer interpretation of the same perfume: desert peach meets rum, vanilla and tonka bean, in an amber fruity fragrance.
