The story

Devertere was born in Ciriè, just outside Turin, “from the meeting of two visions, two generations and a single passion”. The founders are father and son. Lorenzo Cavoretto brings experience: a long career in the industry and a knowledge of the craft, from the formula to the power of raw materials, to the balance “that transforms an accord into emotion”. Federico, a marketing graduate with a passion for art, design and visual culture, brings the fresh eye. He is a climber, and he has turned climbing into a working method: “obsessive precision in the detail and a vision of the whole”.

The name comes from him: “devertere”, a word he has tattooed on his arm. For the house it comes from Latin and means “to deviate, to change direction, but also to amuse”; on the website it is written like a dictionary entry, and the same game returns on the bottle labels. The idea is all there: take a well-trodden road and leave it. “Devertere doesn't look for followers, but for accomplices”, says the manifesto, which speaks to rebellious Millennials and Gen Z but also to “uncomfortable” adults. The declared references are the irony and dissent of Dadaism and Surrealism, translated into bold pairings: “flowers and plastics, leather and synthetic resin”.

Devertere made its debut in 2025 with five Extrait de Parfum signed by Sofia Bardelli: Oudonism, Suedexcess, Sunset Colada, Chillin' (à la Tropézienne) and The Way You Kiss Me. Bardelli, a Pharmacy graduate from Pavia, was one of the twelve candidates chosen worldwide to attend the Grasse Institute of Perfumery. The same year saw the arrival of Promise Her the Moon by Vincent Ricord, born into a family of perfumers from Grasse: nail polish, warm plastic and balloons to tell the story of childhood. In 2026 came Just for One Day and Green Ice, again by Bardelli, and Panama Affair, entrusted to Bertrand Duchaufour, one of the pioneers of artistic perfumery. There is only one rule: every fragrance must “surprise, evolve and leave a lasting trail”.

All the perfumes are 75 ml Extrait de Parfum, made in Italy. The bottle, dark and square, sits tilted on its stand, as if it too had deviated; on the label the name is explained as in a dictionary, and the pyramid of notes runs around the cap. Words matter as much as smells: on every box there is a “poem” by Simone Tempia, the author of Vita con Lloyd, who for the house looks for “the stories inside every fragrance”. In September 2026 Devertere was among the exhibitors at Pitti Fragranze, in Florence. But the house remains where it was born, in Ciriè: from there father and son keep doing what the name promises.

It opens with bergamot, cardamom and saffron, has a heart of iris, birch tar and tonka bean and a base of leather, suede, oud and sandalwood. The house presents it like this: “suede and leather, iris and woods, oud”.

What does Devertere Just for One Day smell like?
Just for One Day is a fruity, gourmand Extrait de Parfum signed by Sofia Bardelli, released in 2026. The star is caramelized apple, with brandy, candied fruit and a touch of bubble gum; in the heart there are jasmine sambac, coriander and cardamom, in the base vanilla, caramel and white musk. It is a 30% extrait and, the house says, it lasts more than ten hours on the skin.

Are Devertere perfumes Extrait de Parfum?
Yes, all of them: the house offers only Extrait de Parfum, the richest concentration, in 75 ml bottles. That is why a little goes a long way and the trail lasts. Devertere asks every fragrance to “surprise, evolve and leave a lasting trail”.

Are Devertere perfumes for men or for women?
They are all unisex. Those looking for a bolder signature usually turn to Suedexcess, Oudonism or Panama Affair; those who prefer a sweeter trail to Just for One Day, The Way You Kiss Me or Sunset Colada; those who want freshness to Green Ice and Chillin' (à la Tropézienne).
