Ramon Monegal perfumes: the art of perfume from Barcelona
The story
Ramon Monegal was born surrounded by perfume. Born in Barcelona in 1951, he belongs to the fourth generation of the family that in 1916 founded Myrurgia, Barcelona's historic perfume house. He studied architecture, then chose the family trade and trained with the masters of the time: Artur Jordi Pey in Geneva, Marcel Carles in Grasse, Pierre Bourdon in Paris. In 1979 he signed his first perfume for Myrurgia, Alada. Decades of creations followed, for the family house and for great names of Spanish fashion.
In 2000 Myrurgia passed to the Puig group. Monegal stayed until 2007, then chose freedom: in 2009 he presented the first collection under his own name. The house is based in Barcelona, where its boutique also stands, in Carrer Calvet. Working alongside him are his children Oscar, Laura and Hector, the fifth generation: that is why the house tells its story as one that since 1916 has embraced five generations and calls itself a guardian of the perfumer's art. Today it also signs its creations as Monegal Perfumes.
His idea is that perfume is an art, on a par with music or literature. The house presents him as a pioneer of the olfactory image, the ability to evoke images through a fragrance, and each perfume declares one of its own. Literature is his second source of inspiration after nature: “I can turn words into notes, phrases into chords, stories into compositions, and the ink into imagined perfume”. Hence the bottle, an inkwell: dodecagonal glass and a twelve-faceted Bakelite cap.
The collections are different chapters of the same Mediterranean story. The Spanish Collection celebrates the soul of Spain: Flamenco, from 2017, which Monegal calls his olfactory manifesto in tribute to Andalusia, then Siesta, Matador and Flamenco Extrait de Parfum. The Ibiza Collection, born in 2018 and renewed as Eau de Parfum, brings the island's light, sunsets and nights to the skin. Hazy Rose, from 2022, is his wild rose at dawn. The latest arrival is Katharsis, from 2026, which the house describes as perfume understood as a trigger for release: Lucky Spray, Dopamine and Yummy Jam are its first chapters.

Frequently asked questions
Who is Ramon Monegal?
Ramon Monegal is a master perfumer born in Barcelona in 1951, fourth generation of the family that founded Myrurgia in 1916. After creating perfumes for the family house and for the Puig group, since 2009 he has signed a line under his own name, which today also goes by Monegal Perfumes. He is the nose behind all the fragrances, from Flamenco to Siesta.
What is Ramon Monegal's most famous perfume?
Flamenco, from 2017: it is the house's perfume with the most votes on both Fragrantica and Parfumo, and Monegal calls it his olfactory manifesto in tribute to Andalusia. It is a floral fruity scent with raspberry, violet and orange blossom in the opening, a heart of rose, iris and jasmine and a base of cedarwood, amber and musk.
What is the difference between Flamenco and Flamenco Extrait de Parfum?
Flamenco is the 2017 Eau de Parfum, luminous and fruity. Flamenco Extrait de Parfum, from 2024, is the more intense version: an amber spicy scent that starts from saffron, rose and raspberry, moves through jasmine, orange blossom and iris and closes on oud, leather, amber and musk. The house presents it as the same passion, reaffirmed by intensity.
What does Siesta by Ramon Monegal smell like?
Siesta is the floral woody scent from 2023 dedicated to the Mediterranean dolce far niente: lemon and honey over cedarwood in the opening, a heart of jasmine, iris and vetiver, a base of leather, tonka bean, vanilla and musk. It belongs to the Spanish Collection, together with Flamenco and Matador.
Which perfumes are part of the Ibiza Collection?
Five: La Isla Blanca, dedicated to the island's light; Sunset Café, to the sunsets seen from the sea; Flower Power, to the hippie myth; All Night Long, to the party nights; Love Reaction, to summer romances. They are all 100 ml Eau de Parfum.
