Attar Al Has

The story

Attar Al Has was born in Istanbul from the friendship between Ersin Bas and Sinan Karakas, two co-founders with more than twenty years of experience in perfumery. The name is already the project: attar is the concentrated perfume of the Oriental tradition, the result of an ancient artisanal technique, and for the house it evokes the strength of oils. “Al Has”, the house explains, expresses its most intimate dimension. Ersin Bas's aim is to bring the depth and structure of attars into contemporary perfumery, without diluting them. Since 2019 the house has been working to revive the traditional distillation of oils, and in 2021 the first fragrances arrived.

Istanbul is the other half of the story. “In Istanbul, differences cannot be reduced to a single story”, says Sinan Karakas: it is a city in motion, where eras overlap and identities coexist. The neighbourhoods of Nişantaşı, Kadıköy and Cihangir, Hagia Sophia and the Bosphorus are the house's declared inspirations. Oud, amber and Turkish rose are the pillars of the collection, alongside more unexpected notes.

The collection has grown in three stages. In 2021 came the Exclusive Collection, which evokes the splendour of Ottoman palaces: among its perfumers is Hüseyin Erdoğmuş, who signed Leather Effecto. In 2022 the Summer Collection brought the light of sunny landscapes, signed by Karine Vinchon Spehner and Sidonie Lancesseur. In 2024 the Terra Mysteria Collection dedicated each perfume to a precious stone. In all there are 21 fragrances, all Extrait de Parfum, the concentration closest to the spirit of attar.

The bottle is part of the identity: massive, heavy glass, carefully polished, with golden details and calligraphy engraved like a seal. In 2022 the house presented it at Pitti Fragranze in Florence. Far from trends, Attar Al Has cultivates a solid presence, with perfumes that last. Every fragrance is made in Turkey.

• Exclusive Collection: the first, born in 2021, evokes the splendour of Ottoman palaces, between opulence and mystery. It includes Leather Effecto, Fleur de Tabac, Exquisite, My Magic, Passion Oud, Metallic Oud, Golden Ice, Kamuthraa, Spice Rose.
• Summer Collection: from 2022, it captures the light of sunlit landscapes. It includes Skin Musk, Liberty's Way, Wonderful Tonka, Gold Sunset, Anatolian Rose, Yellow Splash.
• Terra Mysteria Collection: from 2024, it celebrates the strength of raw matter with six perfumes each named after a stone. It includes Radiant Peridot, Velvet Morganite, Tiger's Eye, Ethereal Moonstone, Harmonic Tourmaline, Wild Emerald.

Leather Effecto is an Extrait de Parfum from the Exclusive Collection, ambery and leathery. It opens with rum, saffron and nutmeg, has a heart of jasmine and a base of amber, labdanum, sandalwood, vanilla and musk. Leather is not among the declared notes: it is an effect, soft and enveloping, that arises from the whole.

What is the difference between the Exclusive, Summer and Terra Mysteria collections?
The Exclusive Collection, from 2021, is the most opulent: oud, amber, rose, tobacco and spices, in the spirit of Ottoman palaces. The Summer Collection, from 2022, is more luminous, with citrus, white flowers and musks. The Terra Mysteria Collection, from 2024, dedicates each perfume to a stone, from peridot to morganite. They are all in Extrait de Parfum.

Are Attar Al Has perfumes for women or for men?
They can all be worn without distinction. The maison describes Fleur de Tabac and Tiger's Eye as more masculine in character, and Liberty's Way, Velvet Morganite and Metallic Oud as more feminine; these are nuances of style, not rules.

Which Attar Al Has perfume is similar to Leather Effecto?
The closest is Fleur de Tabac, which shares saffron and nutmeg in the opening and a base of vanilla, amber and musk, with tobacco at its centre. Those who love the warmth of labdanum, sandalwood and vanilla in Leather Effecto can also try Wild Emerald, earthier and spicier.

Yes: the maison offers all its fragrances in Extrait de Parfum, the highest concentration, in the 100 ml bottle. It is a choice consistent with the name: an attar is by tradition a concentrated perfume.
